A Message from Our President
Looking for a new home! I am sure that you have heard that the building we are currently leasing has been sold. While our lease is up November 30, 2015, we can stay in the space until October, 2016, and pay month to month. Wild rumors as to a new location have abounded, most totally not true. Here are the cold hard fact; the unvarnished truth; the skinny. Many of you have come to the search committee: Bill Toutant, Norman Smith, Verna Goldberg and John Van Cleve or me, with many suggestions as to sites you have seen that might be suitable. I cannot tell you how much we appreciate this. The bridge center belongs to all of us and so we each have a stake in where we go. Unfortunately, the parameters are such that it is difficult to find just the right building, in just the right location, with the number of parking spaces that we need, Right now, nothing is decided. No place has been officially chosen. We have one site in mind that, while it isn't the perfect spot, is a good spot, with the other needs we have met. As soon as we have officially chosen a new home and signed the papers, we will send off fireworks and you can begin the celebration. Until that time, please continue to offer new suggestions and we will continue to "check them out".
Welcome to Louisville Bridge Association - Unit 117
The Louisville Bridge Club, Unit 117, offers games every day and night except Saturday evening, when there are occasional special events. For more information call the bridge center, or the director for the game you prefer.
A new series of bridge lessons will begin the first week of October. Beginning students can attend classes given by Mauri Malka on Wednesday evenings or those given by Verna Goldberg on Thurday mornings. Intermediate players can attend Tuesday afternoon classes with Verna. Friday afternoons, Verna will also be teaching her Best Bridge Series lessons that will cover various bidding conventions, including Roman Two Diamonds, Gambling 3 No Trump, Smolen, Support Doubles, Inverted Minors and Modified Capelletti. Those classes will also cover the play of the hand for defense and delcarer play. Brian Ross will continue giving small group lessons that give insight into the Mind of the Expert on Tuesday afternoons. More details can be found on the Lessons and Seminars page.
The Annual Barren River Sectional Tournament will be held October 2-4 at the Lodge at Barren River Lake State Park. This is a chance to enjoy a relaxing weekend of bridge in a tranquil park setting.
N.A.P qualifying games that began in June and continued through August are now done. Thanks to everyone who participated. If you qualified in any of those games, you are allowed to participate the the District 11 qualifying games that will be held at the Cincinnati Bridge Club on November 14-15. The top three pairs in each stratum from that event will play in the National Finals at the Spring NABC. If you have any questions about this, contact Kit Overpeck.
The annual Louisville-Lexington regional will be held from November 2 to November 8 at the Horseshoe Casino in Elizabeth Indiana. This has always been a well populated and strong tournament that many consider to be an excellent tune-up leading into the ACBL Fall North American Champtionships. More information and an event schedule is available here.

Breaking News
A very important message from Carolyn Carpenter:
The 2015 Louisville - Lexington Regional Tournament will be held at the Horseshoe Casino November 2 through November 8. Once again, the registration gifts will include a set of bridge labels for those who request them. If you are going to play in the tournament and want labels, please order them in advance. All you need to do is give or e-mail your name and ACBL player number to Carolyn Carpenter. Labels ordered no later than October 31 will be available when you register. Labels ordered at the tournament may not be ready for several days.
From Kit Overpeck:
The ACBL has a hierarchy of governing bodies. The highest level is the National level, then there is the District level, next there is the Unit level, and finally the Club level. We have multiple clubs in the LBC and in the southern reaches of our unit. Our Unit number is 117 and includes Louisville, Southern Indiana across the river, and south into Glasgow and the Barron River area. Our Unit belongs to District 11 which includes Southern Indiana, Most of Ohio, Most of Kentucky, and Western West Virginia. This is important to acknowledge when we think of the North American Pairs (NAP). The NAP is one of two grass root events held by the ACBL. The NAP begins at the Club Level, progresses through the Unit and District levels, and culminates in competition at the National level. It is a fun and distinctly unique event. The District finals are in the middle of November. The District 11 website is located at the following address: www.district11bridge.com. This site has extensive information concerning everything pertinent to our district including the NAP.
